The Forty Rules of Love is a novel that interweaves two parallel narratives across different timeline and cultures; One is a modern day story, a middle-aged housewife named Ella who is assigned to read a manuscript about Rumi. And the 13th century story, the manuscript that tells the story of the friendship between Rumi and the wandering dervish Shams. Shams introduces Rumi 40 spiritual rules that guide Rumi's transformation from a respected scholar into a mystic poet. Elif Shafak walks you through history while presenting 40 Rules of Love, a series of Sufi-inspired insights that explore themes of love as a divine force. She captures the essence of Sufism and love beyond romantic and social expectations and the transcendence of ego. I keep going back to this book when life gets too tiring and would recommend this to anyone.
Rezension von LorenaEines meiner absoluten Lieblingsbücher! Den Titel finde ich sehr unglücklich gewählt, da es sich irgendwie nach einem Sach- oder Selbsthilfebuch anhört, obwohl es ein sehr toller und tiefgründiger Roman ist. Es werden zwei parallele Geschichten erzählt, die Erste spielt sozusagen im Hier und Jetzt während die Zweite im 13. Jahrhundert stattfindet. Hauptsächlich geht es um die Beziehung zwischen dem berühmten persischen Dichter Rumi und dem wandernden Derwisch Shams von Tabriz. Shams taucht als spiritueller Lehrer im Leben von Rumi auf. Ich liebe die Gedichte von Rumi, und fand es sehr sehr spannend in Romanform mehr über sein Leben zu erfahren. Der Roman erforscht den Sufismus, eine mystische Strömung des Islams. Ich glaube wenn ich an alle Religionen denke, kann ich mit dem Islam ehrlich gesagt am wenigsten anfangen aber dieses Buch hat mir viele neue interessante Perspektiven darauf gegeben. Die 40 Regeln der Liebe die Shams lehrt, sind voll von spirituellen Weisheiten. Ach ich könnte noch so viel sagen…. Und merke ich muss dieses Buch bald nochmal lesen :) Hab erst vor ein paar Tagen mit meinem Freund über das Buch gesprochen, weil wir nicht verstehen können weshalb dieses Buch eigentlich so unbekannt ist. Ich habe diesen Roman schon so oft verschenkt, und jeder war bisher begeistert. Lest es unbedingt!!!
