Reviewed by JoanneThe following review has evolved out of a book circle reading and is therefore divided in chapters: First part (up to Chapter 7): I haven't really been able to immerse myself in the world yet – but maybe that's not necessary at this point. Everything else, however went too quickly for me. I hope that the relationships between the characters will gain more depth through the upcoming plot. At the moment, I can't quite connect emotionally. The second part (up to Chapter 16) confirms that the book is a fast read for me. I flew through the pages while reading. At the same time I realize that I'm missing some depth. The book is clearly romance-first and fantasy-second. I would like more details about the world and the magic system. I regularly cringe during the dialogues between Thorne and Lis. Jennifer L. Armentrout leans heavily into clichés here, giving us the classic trope of a big powerful man and a small naive woman. I'm so glad the book doesn't stop at Chapter 16. Round 3 (up to Chapter 23) has convinced me a bit more. Even though some things are repetitive and predictable, I was able to get more into the story. I think this is mainly because we learn more about the characters, their relationships and their quirks. What also cheers me up a bit is that Lis has found her voice and isn't afraid to express her opinions. I still wish to learn more about Caelum and the mentioned riots in the kingdom. Round 4 (up to Chapter 31): Everything that I somewhat liked in Round 3 is now starting to annoy me. Everything is repetitive – nothing much happens. I'm missing the plot! Lis's constant wandering around and her 3000 unanswered questions are getting frustrating. Not even the spicy scenes can convince me. How could they? The book is almost over, and I still haven't formed any connection to the characters. Sum up: I didn’t like it and will not read any other JLA books and definitely not the second part of this series. I probably would have liked it in the beginning of my reading journey - but this just lacks on the plot. And where is the fantasy?!

Ma questa. fino a metà libro si parla praticamente solo di sesso. "Amplessi" che durano più capitoli! tant'è che non capivo più cosa stessi ascoltando:un porno? solo ben oltre la metà del racconto inizia la vera storia a mio avviso, e decisamente pochi dettagli dei capitoli precedenti sono davvero utili. Ecco, il finale è davvero ben fatto: ti lascia con "e quindi? che succede adesso? ". E niente, aspettiamo un anno per leggere il seguito. Piuttosto deludente... tanti capitoli che secondo me potevano essere ridotti ad un paio soltanto. Liliana Bottone sempre top!
