Rezension von SofiaEast of Eden zeigt uns die amerikanische Geschichte in einer einzigen Familie, die Trasks. Das Buch behandelt Cain und Abel, die nature vs. nuture Diskussion und die Frage ob eine Frau wirklich das reine Böse ist. Episch, interessant und leicht zu lesen. Steinbeck stellt sicher, dass Leser*innen genau verstehen, was er uns sagen möchte. Ich fand es etwas schade, dass er uns keinen Interpretationsspielraum zutraut. Gleichzeitig findet man in einer direkten Sprache auch gewisse Vorteile. Lasst euch nicht von der Länge abschrecken! Ich kann dieses Buch sogar für Klassikeranfänger empfehlen.
Rezension von Marlene WulfIch hatte sehr hohe Erwartungen für dieses Buch und sie wurden leider etwas enttäuscht. Die Geschichte und das Setting werden toll beschrieben; man bekommt viele Hintergrundinformationen und es ist sehr spannend. Dennoch fand ich die Geschichte in Teilen sehr langatmig und die wichtige Botschaft des Buches kommt auch eigentlich erst sehr spät heraus.

Rezension von Reka BorbasI’ve recently been to a book debut/reading event at which an author and and interviewer were discussing the historic struggle for dominance between literature and psychology. Two fields trying to capture human experience, literature being the more ancient one. Reading Steinbeck this discussion came to my mind. What a genius, tragic and beautiful way to capture the internal struggle of humans.
