East of Eden
von John Steinbeck
Set in the rich farmland of California’s Salinas Valley, this sprawling and often brutal novel follows the intertwined destinies of two families—the Trasks and the Hamiltons—whose generations helplessly reenact the fall of Adam and Eve and the poisonous rivalry of Cain and Abel. Here Steinbeck created some of his most memorable characters and explored his most enduring themes: the mystery of identity; the inexplicability of love; and the murderous consequences of love’s absence.

There are some graphic things described which are disturbing. That said, Steinbeck is the ultimate American writer of character, relationship, and the land. He writes of people from their soul to their skin and makes you look at yourself the way you look at each character. Very thought provoking in its themes, and the thoughts are ones we should consider. You can walk away from a Steinbeck book a better person if you allow yourself to go through his process.
One of my favourite books of all time. I enjoyed it so much. This book is the reason why Steinbeck became my favourite author.
