I actually really liked this! The setting was definitely my favorite part and I loved that the storyline too. I liked Tiernan and was surprisingly invested in all the characters. (noah > kaleb > jake) The spice was maybe a little much at times, but with a book like this you kind of know what you’re getting into lol. My biggest issue was that it started to drag towards the end and I got a little tired of all the back and forth. Overall, definitely a good read and I’m glad I read it —but I was also very ready to be done by the end 😭
📖 Credence by Penelope Douglas ⭐️⭐️✨ 2,25 stars This story was honestly such a weird one for me. Credence follows Tiernan, a young woman who, after losing both of her parents, is sent to live in the remote Colorado mountains with her father’s half-brother Jake and his two sons, Noah and Kaleb. What starts as a forced fresh start quickly turns into a complicated and forbidden situation as Tiernan becomes increasingly entangled with all three men. I think I would have enjoyed the story a lot more if it wasn’t quite as fucked up as it was. Morally, I felt incredibly conflicted because there were parts of the story that I genuinely enjoyed, while at the same time I couldn’t ignore how wrong a lot of what happened to Tiernan was. The three men take advantage of her vulnerability, and considering how young she is and the power dynamics involved, I just couldn’t fully get behind any of these relationships. There were quite a few scenes where I genuinely cringed or felt uncomfortable. I mean, she was barely legal, and the whole situation just felt wrong to me on so many levels. Even though I understand that this book is meant to be dark, taboo, and morally questionable, I struggled to separate that from how uncomfortable the relationships made me feel. In the end, I’m just not sure this book was for me. There were definitely aspects of the story that kept me reading, but I could never really get over how wrong Tiernan’s relationships with the three men felt to me.
Really liked this book. It was kinda hard to read at the beginning, but as soon as I got to know the main character a little more and the side characters it was really good. The character development was also one of my favourite parts in this book. Of course was the spice also very intriguing and I almost finished the whole book in one go.
