It was too real, the pain, the urge for a better world. And the man was, in my eyes, so uncomfortable, it made me want to skip the pages. But I loved their letters, this honest way if describing a friendship made me shiver.
The book felt like a slice of life about people in their 30s who are still kind of lost. Emotionally, mentally, existentially. They’re not sure what to do with their lives or relationships, and they’re just trying to figure it out as they go. There’s no big plot twist or deep revelation, just another chapter in their lives, really. The email exchanges between the two main characters were interesting, they talk about their personal stuff, but also throw in these anxious reflections on the world, politics, climate, inequality… but in the end, it all kind of loops back to the same sense of confusion or helplessness. At times it felt shallow, but maybe that was intentional. Like, maybe the whole point is that in a chaotic, crumbling world, the only thing we can really hold onto is our connection to the people around us. Love and friendship as a kind of quiet rebellion against the noise. It didn’t blow me away. A soft, subtle snapshot of millennial life - lost but still trying.
