Not my normal type of read, but kept me hooked from page one. Excellent story.
Stephen King is one of my favorite writers and both the Kennedy assassination and the politically climate of the 60s are incredibly interesting to me, so this seemed like a perfect fit. And it was. This is a wonderful piece of historical fiction. Over these over 700 pages, King completely captivated me and I was more involved in the story and characters than I had been in a long time. His writing so good and makes this a real page-turner. You don’t feel the books length at any point. Now, there was a point toward the last quarter when I started not loving everything about it. I loved this and it was straight 5/5 until the beating/memory part. It was still fantastic, but that part was not as great as everything before it. And I honestly think this would have been even better with a happy ending. The way it ultimately ended was very moving and I damn near cried, but an ‘and they lived happily ever after’ ending would have been wonderful and interesting, in my humble opinion. I usually love dark endings and I think King does them well, but I wouldn’t have minded a happy ending here. Still, this is a near-perfect book. I might not always completely agree with every little piece of King’s political views, I’m more of a leftist than he is and he’s too much of a liberal in some ways, but this was interesting, intriguing, romantic, inventive, heartfelt, both nostalgic and anti-nostalgic and a phenomenal time. Also loved the connection to ‘It’. 4.5/5
“The butterfly spreads its wings.” “The past harmonize.” OH MY GOD! This book is a masterpiece! The story is about an English teacher whose name is Jake Epping. And soon he’d been told by his friend, Al that he has to go through a time portal (that he found in his diner) to the 1958 and prevent John F. Kennedy’s assassination. And even though he had his doubts at first, he agrees to that, to change the world for the better, but everything has become complicated the more he spends time in the past. Because the past doesn’t want to be changed. It resists. And everything’s become even more complex when he fell in love with Sadie Dunhill the new librarian of the school he works in. Honestly, at first it was a little scary for me to start a book with this length but I was so into the summary that I started it anyway. (Kept telling myself, you can do this!) And I’m here to tell you I enjoyed every second of it. It never fails to surprise you. I grantee that. The characterization was incredible. I absolutely understood Jake, Sadie and other characters. The way king told the story was awesome. Gosh! Everything about this book is awesome. I might fail to express my feelings for it or put my thoughts into words. I’ve read the last 200 pages almost in one seat and I am beyond pleased. I really wasn’t able to put it down! This was my first Stephen king novel and I definitely became a fan of his. The way he tells the story and help you understand each events or characters or actions is just amazing. I am definitely going to read this again. Reading 11/22/63 in these days especially, was something else. I mean, I kept telling myself, what if we could go back and stop Corona Virus from happening? How amazing that would be? And after finishing this book, I’m terrified to just imagine what else could happen if we really were able to prevent it? Let that sink in... These are some of my favorite lines in the book: “To the loving eye, even smallpox scars are beautiful.” “Dancing is life.” It sure is. :))) Thank you Stephen for this amazing journey ♥️
Epic.
