Reviewed by Carlos R. DiazFaith. Love. Immigration. Alienation. These are the four overwhelming themes of Michel Faber's space opera "The Book of Strange New Things." I really enjoyed reading this novel about a man of the cloth named Peter who is given the ultimate assignment: preach the word of God to a new civilization in a foreign planet. His wife, the randy and religious Bea, stays at home on Earth and dispatches e-mails that begin pleasantly and end badly. Faber's prose is polished and pretty. I liked the protagonist and his struggles with faith. My favorite thing about this book is that the edges of the pages are gilded, just like an actual Bible, or "The Book of Strange New Things." That is all.
