Stadtrekonstruktionen von Trier im Mittelalter

By Lukas Clemens, Marzena Kessler

Format:Hardcover

The volume presents the appearance of the cathedral city on the Moselle in the two periods around 1120 and 1430 in overall reconstructions. While the high medieval Trier is still particularly characterised by the former large buildings and further ruins of its ancient past, in addition to its loose settlement structure dominated by residential towers of urban families and agrarian structures, the late medieval impression bears witness to the densification of settlements that had occurred in the meantime, interspersed with numerous more recent ecclesiastical institutions. The extremely detailed illustrations illustrating continuities and change, especially against the background of more extensive explanations, invite the reader to make new discoveries again and again, even after multiple viewings.
