📖 Soon Gone by Kate Bold ⭐️⭐️💫✨ 2,75 stars Another book I downloaded during a “Stuff Your Kindle” event without realizing it was actually the first book in a series. I’ve read Kate Bold before and generally enjoy her writing. Her books tend to be on the shorter side, though, which sometimes means the characters and storylines lack a little depth. That might also be because most of her books are part of longer series, so maybe you need to read more than one to really get the full picture. As for Soon Gone specifically, I really enjoyed the story. We follow FBI Agent Gemma Forge as she investigates a series of murders in abandoned Midwest churches. The killer leaves behind Latin inscriptions and clues connected to Dante’s concept of Limbo, forcing Gemma to dig into the twisted mind behind the murders before another victim is claimed. I’m always going to be intrigued by a book involving the FBI and a serial killer, so I knew this one had a pretty good chance of working for me. I’m not usually the biggest fan of crimes with a strong religious element, but I still found the case interesting and enjoyed following Gemma’s investigation. Overall, I thought this was a solid start to a new FBI thriller series. At just under 200 pages, it’s also perfect when you want something quick to read between longer books. I might definitely check out the rest of the series at some point, and I’d recommend this one if you’re looking for a short, fast-paced thriller!
