Product Description When twelve-year-old Jason Hunter and his two friends discover a spaceship buried in the woods behind his home, his world is turned upside down. Suddenly, he is forced to flee the Earth on a desperate mission to rescue his abducted parents and prevent an alien invasion. The journey takes him halfway across the galaxy, where he must confront bizarre and deadly creatures, escape from a toxic region of space called the Vuhndalac Pit, and evade capture by a powerful alien leader intent on destroying him.Hidden somewhere among the stars is an ancient talisman that Jason must find before it is too late. If he is the Heir of Elam, the one person in the entire universe who can claim this talisman, he will be able to rescue his parents and save his planet. If he is not, touching it will be the last thing he ever does! From the Author The Talisman of Elam is my first novel. Although I had written and published short fiction, I had only once before attempted a novel -- and that didn't go so well! It was many years before I was willing to try again, and of course my inspiration for doing so was Harry Potter. My original intention was to write this one story and then move on to something else, but as I got into it, I realized the story was too big for one book. I found I had no choice but to write a trilogy, a pretty daunting undertaking for a first time novelist! But as I got into it, I became more and more excited. First I had to figure out the story arc for the whole trilogy. Then I had to figure out the story lines for each book. Finally, I had to plot the first book in detail before I could start writing.I had to come up with alien worlds, alien names, alien languages and cultures, a history of civilization in the galaxy, and a million other details. That was daunting too, but in fact I don't think I've ever had as much fun. I could be like a kid, just let my imagination go wild, and see where it led. When it came time to actually sit down and write The Talisman of Elam, I could hardly contain myself. I was at the computer early every morning and kept working until late at night. At times it seemed as though the story was writing itself. It only took a few weeks to write the first draft. Then, of course, came the several months of edits and revisions. I re-wrote the first chapter over 100 times before I was satisfied! My plan after finishing the first book was to move on to another project and not write the next one in the trilogy until I saw how well this one was received. I found that impossible to do. The characters had become alive and they wouldn't leave me alone. They pestered me day and night to finish their story, and it was impossible to work on anything else. So I plowed ahead with The Hand of Osiris and, finally, The Treasure of Hathor. With each book, the stakes get higher and the risk to the characters greater. How it all ends may surprise you. Frankly, it surprised me!
