I loved all of the characters so much it was really good

Omg this one was a great read! I laughed so damn much 😅 So, it’s a fantasy romance where the god is dead, the hero is emotionally wrecked, and the most consistent act of violence is against yarn. The romance is undeniably sweet, but also so slow it occasionally feels like watching two deeply polite adults wait for the other to finish apologizing first. If longing were cardio, these people would be unstoppable. I properly loved the most that they were middle aged adults and not 20-year olds. So refreshing. The mystery subplot tries very hard to be dangerous, but mostly exists to interrupt knitting, brooding, and extremely respectful flirting. That said, the humor is sharp, the trauma is handled with genuine care, and the characters are far more emotionally intelligent than most fantasy protagonists - which somehow makes their inability to communicate even funnier. Overall, it’s cozy, awkward, and oddly delightful. Come for the fallen paladin, stay for the emotional repression, mild peril, and the comforting realization that even holy warriors can be absolute disasters at romance 🧶⚔️💀

The moment he pulled out his knitting to pass the time while standing guard, Paladin Steve had already won my heart. From then on, everything went uphill in the most refreshing and funny way. An utterly delightful read.
