Initially, the book had me hooked. I was quite surprised to discover that Carlton's book doesn't contain sexual violence or present it as “romance”—though perhaps I'd simply forgotten, given how long it took me to read. By the end, though, I'd grown rather bored with it: the chemistry between Rev and Dread had somewhat fizzled, and Dread himself no longer sparked any anticipation. That said, my review isn't particularly objective, since I genuinely did take ages reading this book, and I simply skimmed through 90% of the boogie-woogie scenes without properly engaging with them.
