Legendary, the second book in the Caraval series, focuses on Donatella. Predictably, reckless Donatella has gotten herself into a pickle. As compensation for clues she received concerning the whereabouts of her mother, she has to uncover the true name of Legend. What better way to achieve this than by entering the next game of Caraval? This year’s game takes place in Valenda in honour of Empress Elantine’s birthday. On her mission to find her mother, Donatella uncovers more about her mother’s past. Her discoveries are harrowing, and with each new piece of information, Donatella realises that she did not know her mother at all. Different identities, unpaid debts and sacrifices that affect her daughters are enough to confuse her and make her feel betrayed. On top of that, warring emotions for Dante and Jacks, and the growing distance between her and Scarlett as they choose not to confide in each other, put a strain on Donatella. The reader has front-row seats as Donatella tries to untangle the myriad emotions running rampant in both her head and heart. This book gives us plot twists galore, Decks of Destiny, Fates and curses and not one but three swoon-worthy characters. Love-struck Julian; charismatic and mysterious Dante, who is drawn to Donatella; and, of course, the cruel and infamous Jacks, who cannot seem to stay away. A heady concoction indeed.
Dante so ein cutie (who did this to you? 🫨🤯
I expected a lot more from this book because, honestly, I was bored most of the time.I broke up after 65%… Tella is just not a character I enjoyed reading about, and Dante wasn’t particularly interesting either. I absolutely loved the first book, Caraval, but this one never reached the same level for me. The one thing that kept me going was Jacks. He was the only character who made the story exciting, and I was so happy whenever Julian and Scarlett showed up. Don’t get me wrong the book isn’t bad. It just never captured the same magic and excitement that Caraval had. Maybe part of the problem is that it’s hard for me to switch to Tella’s perspective after spending an entire book with Scarlett. And honestly, I still don’t understand why Stephanie Garber won’t even give Scarlett and Julian a novella. 💔 Sorry, not sorry, but I’m still a little mad about that.
