Pamela North has a wonderful time when she runs into a baked-apple clue and a dress-that-went-to-the-cleaners clue, both of which are somehow connected with Dan Beck, radio commentator with a beautiful voice, who has risen from minor jobs to efficiency expert and is in full flight as a first-string radio economist. Connected with him also are Ann Lawrence, Social Registerite; John Elliott, ghostwriter with a southern accent; Frances McCalley, typist in an investment house; her boyfriend, Franklin Martinelli; Cleo Harper, who supplies too much information; and Mrs. Pennick, a housekeeper. As murders occur, the Norths and Lieutenant Bill Weigland are plunged into an exciting chain of events — the mishandling of an estate, a dramatic scene in a cheap cafeteria, high tension in a radio broadcasting studio, and unexpected doings in a telephone booth.
