Reviewed by AntoniaNot my favorite Riley Sager book, but I definitely enjoyed it and didn't see the plot twists coming. I feel like it kind of dragged on at times but the characters were very interesting and I would still recommend it.
Reviewed by Raphaela Das Buch spielt auf zwei Zeitebenen. Maggie als Erwachsene, die ihre Rückkehr in das "House of Horror" beschreibt und die Schilderungen ihres Vaters, als sie vor 25 Jahren dort lebten und was angeblich passiert sein soll. Eine spannende Story, die sich als kunstvolles Puzzle entpuppt und einen lange im Dunkeln lässt, was denn nun Wahrheit und was Fiktion an den Geschichten aus Maggies Kindheit ist. Ob sie es wirklich mit dem Übernatürlichen zu tun hat und noch viele andere Geheimnisse, die erst nach und nach zu Tage kommen. Das Ende habe ich nicht erwartet, ich hatte einige Theorien, hab aber jedes Mal daneben gelegen. Sager verknüpft die beiden Erzählstränge hervorragend miteinander und sie ergänzen sich perfekt, so dass aus den einzelnen Kapitel eine vollständige Geschichte entsteht. Es ist leicht und flüssig zu lesen, die Figuren sind größtenteils recht sympathisch und vor allem glaubhaft gestaltet.
Reviewed by Peggy Payne This was a good one, though I did cringe more than once during some of the "typical haunted house" happenings. Twenty-five years ago, Maggie and her family rushed from the home they had recently moved into just three weeks earlier. Her father went on to write a best-selling book about their short time in the house they believed to be haunted. Now, he has passed, and Maggie has inherited a house she didn't realize her father had kept all these years. On his deathbed, he warns her to never go back to the house. But Maggie has to see for herself if the book was real and what actually happened at Baneberry Hall. This one has a bit of everything.... murder, lies, betrayal, suspicion, suspense, and good old ghost stories.
