Welcome to the intimate diary of Carr, a lowly intellectual who was recently abandoned by his wife. After years of sharing exclusively spiritual and material misery, Carr does not see his wife's desertion as a cause for drama but as an opportunity to reinvent his life. To this end, Carr settles in the city of Santa Maria where he works in a dam. Soon he discovers that the dam is a front for smugglers. The inability to change his destiny, which is meticulously detailed in his diary, will lead Carr to plunge into the extreme apathy that reigns in the town.
