Reviewed by VerenaI really enjoyed the psychological aspect of this book. Stefan Zweig does an incredible job portraying the effects of isolation and obsession, and I found myself far more invested in Dr. B.’s inner world than in the game of chess itself. The plot felt a little unusual at times, but I don’t think the story was ever really about chess. It was about the human mind, and that’s what made it so compelling. A thought-provoking and beautifully written classic that I would definitely recommend.
