🫧 I was really intrigued by the premise of #AKingdomofStarsandShadows and honestly, I wanted to love it. A world filled with fae, vampires, magic, and political intrigue sounded exactly like my kind of fantasy… but unfortunately, this one just didn’t work for me🫣 One thing I did enjoy was the concept itself. The combination of fae and vampires had a lot of potential and I liked the overall direction of the world🧛🏼 There were moments where I could see what the author was trying to create, and it did make me curious enough to keep reading. Unfortunately, that’s also where most of my positives end🤡 The writing style never really clicked with me. It felt quite simplistic and I struggled to fully immerse myself in the story🥲 The romance developed very quickly, the dialogue often felt unnatural, and I never formed much of an emotional connection with the characters🙅🏽‍♀️ The spice was probably my biggest disappointment. There was a lot of it, like A LOT!It really felt excessive considering where the story was in terms of character and relationship development👎🏼 And honestly, the spice was so so so poorly written, bruuuuuhh no thanksss!🌶️ Another issue was how predictable everything felt. Most of the twists and reveals were easy to see coming, which meant I rarely felt surprised or truly invested in what was happening👀 I also wasn’t particularly attached to any of the characters. While they each had interesting roles to play, none of them really stood out or felt especially memorable to me🧚🏽‍♀️ And one small thing… the author’s notes throughout the book just weren’t for me 😅 I personally didn’t feel like they added anything to the reading experience and found them more annoying than anything else🤡 . . . . .
