Wicked Fox

von Kat Cho

Format:Hardcover

An addictive fantasy-romance set in modern-day Seoul.Eighteen-year-old Gu Miyoung has a secret--she's a gumiho, a nine-tailed fox who must devour the energy of men in order to survive. Because so few believe in the old tales anymore, and with so many evil men no one will miss, the modern city of Seoul is the perfect place to hide and hunt. But after feeding one full moon, Miyoung crosses paths with Jihoon, a human boy, being attacked by a goblin deep in the forest. Against her better judgment, she violates the rules of survival to rescue the boy, losing her fox bead--her gumiho soul--in the process.Jihoon knows Miyoung is more than just a beautiful girl--he saw her nine tails the night she saved his life. His grandmother used to tell him stories of the gumiho, of their power and the danger they pose to men. He's drawn to her anyway. With murderous forces lurking in the background, Miyoung and Jihoon develop a tenuous friendship that blossoms into something more. But when a young shaman tries to reunite Miyoung with her bead, the consequences are disastrous and reignite a generations-old feud . . . forcing Miyoung to choose between her immortal life and Jihoon's.

3.75 rating. It's a great YA book that weaves Korean folklore into modern times. It does have a mix of K-drama put in. Characters Yea was the typical K-drama mom you see in tv that pushes their child to be the best cause she's such a disappointment. Gu Miyoung is a meek and naive gumiho who pushes people away and relies solely on her mother. Jihoon is a free-spirited guy with trust issues. I'll leave the rest out. Plot It was somehow predictable on my end due to the given hints at some parts of the book. Still, it does have it's charm and provides for a bigger picture of what's yet to come by the end of the book. What I did love is that it didn't really have to center about the relationship but centered more on familial ties. Themes Not all blood is thicker than water. I think that's really the main point I got here. I also love though how we're introduced to Korean culture of Halmeoni, gumiho, dokkaebi and all. It does bring in you into their culture and does not force itself to become more Westernized.
