“Touching and complex…Tucker unerringly hits all the high notes of romance—the spark, the emotional depth, the mental and physical struggles—while creating a couple who seem perfectly attuned even when they are in conflict.” —Publishers Weekly (starred review)Twenty-four-year-old truck stop waitress and single mother Catherine Wright has simple goals: to give her five-year-old daughter a happy life and to never again be the talk of the town in Balsam, Pennsylvania (population three thousand outside of tourist season). And then one foggy night, on a lonely road back from another failed date, Catherine saves a man’s life. It isn’t until after the police have arrived that Catherine realizes exactly who it is she has rescued: Brett Madden, hockey icon and media darling.Catherine has already had her fifteen minutes of fame and the last thing she wants is to have her past dragged back into the spotlight, only this time on a national stage. So she hides her identity. It works. For a time. But when she finds the man she saved standing on her doorstep, desperate to thank her, all that changes. There’s an immediate connection, and it’s more electric than the bond of two people who endured a traumatic event. It’s something neither of them expected. Something that Catherine isn’t sure she can handle; something she is afraid to trust.Because how long can an extraordinary man like Brett be interested in an ordinary woman like Catherine...before the spark fades?

if there is such a thing as an instlove slowburn, this is it. and while I hate instlove, I love a good slowburn. sure, the time frame of the main story is maybe 2 months max, so the whole thing is happening quite fast. Also I don't really know how they went from strangers to being infuriated with each other - because they didn't meet again for maybe the first 20% of the book and then only irregularly for the next 30-40%. Yet somehow it doesn't bother me that I'm just told to believe they are into each other. I'm still rooting for them. And I know that's because I simply adore KA Tucker's writing. she could probably describe a shoebox to me in great detail and I would still enjoy it. I just love the tone and atmosphere of her books. I just kind of wish to hear Brett's voice at some point. with him only really starting to be in the book regularly in the second half of the book Id have liked to read a few chapters from his pov. Because while we knew he liked her, we didn't really get all that much from him on the why. apart from her saving his life and apparently being so different from what he excepted (read petit and beautiful). Anyways, I still adore anything Tucker writers simply because she makes me smile. Not because the story is funny but because it's so endearing. therefore even though this story was kind of lacking real development, I can't help but really enjoy it. And I know that's weird but sometimes you can't explain why you like a book. with this it's ot the content, it's the feelings.
