Fotografische Prosa: Licht und Schatten, stimmungsvolle Details lassen einen Moment deutlich hervortreten. Eine Frau steht in der Dämmerung rauchend am Fenster, den Cardigan zieht sie eng um sich, ängstlich, sehnsüchtig. Durch kleine Beobachtungen, eine reiche Gedankenwelt und intensive Emotionalit entsteht eine literarische Qualität, die das Buch, obwohl sprachlich durchaus herausfordernd, zu einem Schmöker macht. Schnell taucht man in Cushlas Leben ein, sobald man den Roman aufschlägt. Ganz versinkt man in der Atmosphäre. Und was für eine spannende Lebensgeschichte: inmitten einer gewalttätigen Krise existiert auch das alltägliche Unglück: verliebt sein aber ohne Gewissheit auf Zukunft, eine alkoholkranke Mutter, nicht weiter wissen, helfen wollen, aber nicht können. Ein wunderbares Romandebüt von einer sehr sympathischen Autorin. Ich bin gespannt auf ihre Kurzgeschichten. „Wasn’t it wonderful? he said, as they left the play. Yeah, she said.
