Rezension von Raphaela Die Fortsetzung von "John dies at the end" wartet wieder mit einer ziemlich irrsinnigen Idee auf, die zwischen Horror und Klamauk hin und her schwankt. Dieses Mal verpatzen David und sein Kumpel John die Bekämpfung eines seltsamen, unerklärlichen Wesens - das sie der Einfachheit halber "Spinne" nennen - und damit bricht eine Art Zombie Seuche in der Stadt aus. Doch neben den verwandelten ehemaligen Einwohnern, müssen sie es dieses Mal auch mit der Regierung aufnehmen, die versucht, Ground Zero zu dekontaminieren. Das Buch ist spannend, irrwitzig, verrückt, ein wenig eklig und ziemlich durchgeknallt. Die beiden liebenswerten Loser haben sich mit allerlei herum zu schlagen. Es ist coole Unterhaltung, auch wenn es nicht an die Einzigartigkeit des ersten Bandes rankommt. Dafür zieht es sich an manchen Stellen zu sehr und wird phasenweise fast schon etwas konventionell. Allerdings mag das auch daran liegen, dass viele der Themen rund um Zombie- und Pandemiethemen seit dem Erscheinen des Buchs zu sehr zu Klischees geworden sind.
