Behold, the Bitch Queen. Duty and love play such an incredible part in this story of Queen Talyien who goes through all sorts of tribulations. Was it for duty only? Was it for love? Characters were written amazingly most notably for Queen Talyien, Khine, and Rayyel. I love how the author made them human and not just some characters written to fill in the story. There's so much to explore if you really wanna delve into analyzing these characters. The world was written to appeal to your senses of sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch even though you're just reading it. I love how the cuisine was written to make you savor the smell and the taste. This book was a journey about self. How our main character, Queen Talyien, would come to discover so many things she had not noticed before and how she could prove that she really was worthy of loyalty and respect as Queen. Our character was a real woman to whom many might relate to. She was a mother, a wife, and a mother of a nation. We all are. This book shows the true strength of a woman and her innermost thoughts and desires for the people she loves. It shows her struggles against a patriarchal thinking and how she was going against it. It also touched on the question on how should one really live their life. Was everything supposed to be done out of duty, regardless of morals? Was it supposed to be done out of love, using your heart? Khine gave a nice answer to that and I love his character as the true confidant of the queen. The story had so many revelations towards the end that were quite unexpected. They came down like a sword. The thrill and ride of emotions was overwhelming until the end. Can't wait to grab a copy of the Ikessar Falcon. Readers are even introduced to dragons and mages here in this book so I believe they will make a reappearance soon.
