Rezension von Raphaela Ein Buch, das mir von vielen Seiten wärmstens empfohlen wurde, das auch auf bookTube bei entsprechenden Chaneln mit Lob überschüttet wurde und das mich leider doch wieder sehr enttäuscht hat. Wie macht man Horror am besten und schnellsten kaputt? In dem man ihn über-erklärt. Zwischen den Kapiteln gibt es immer wieder "Einschübe". Zeitungartikel, Interviews, Berichte, etc die genau erklären, was im Vorfeld passiert ist und wieso, das zu den Ereignissen auf der Insel führen konnte. Es ist ermüdend, macht die Pace der Geschichte kaputt, nimmt viel von der Spannung und langweilt einfach nur schrecklich. Hinzukommt, dass Body Horror im Roman nicht so gut rüberkommt, wie auf der Leinwand. Ein größeres Problem ist aber, dass das Buch im Grunde nicht einen sympathischen Charakter hat, mit dem man mitfiebern könnte. Die eine Hälfte der Jungs sind einfach arschige Unsympathen bis hin zu einem waschechten Psychopathen und der Rest ist einfach uninteressant oder im Fall von Newt einfach zu klischeehaft, als dass es einen groß interessieren würde. Zwar wird immer und immer wieder versucht, den Jungs so etwas wie eine Persönlichkeit zu geben, in dem seitenweise über Träume oder frühere Erlebnisse berichtet wird, aber irgendwie kommt es nicht über eine Aneinanderreihung von Klischees hinaus. Man hätte das Buch um gut die Hälfte straffen können, ohne ernsthaft etwas vn der Story zu verlieren, vermutlich hätte sie vom Wegfall der ganzen Zwischenkapitel sogar noch massiv profitiert.
