Winsor • This e-arc was kindly gifted to us in exchange for an honest review! • I really like this book. Thrown into the action of the Midwinter Festival it is gripping right from the start! Dilly is a loyal and humorous girl, on the streets she learned to be strong and she strives for a family to be part of. She is not like any other character I have read of before, very clever, righteous, and courageous. The setting is pretty cool as well, it gave me a hint of Six of Crows vibes, with all those smugglers, complicated kinships, and the close connection to the sea. Fitch might be an islander with a criminal father, but he is not corrupt despite his special abilities. I loved to read how he met Dilly and how they both find comfort in each other even in their dreadful situations. For the story to get more intense, I would have liked a little bit more in-depth background about the characters. But other than that, I would recommend checking this book out and supporting indie publishers.
