Rezension von Julia*audiobook* if you know New Zealand only as a backdrop for lord of the rings or the Last Samurai, pick up this book immediately and learn! Learn about Maori history, about their peaceful resistance against colonialism. And this novel wraps the history lesson in an intriguingly narrative package of love, sisterhood and courage. Oh how I loved the bond between the three sisters. What makes this novel special are the two narrative levels: a contemporary hobby historian and a strong heroine - especially lovely in the audiobook where each plot line gets its own voice. In the beginning i had some difficulties to emerge into the story, but that was because I haven’t known any of the history or the names. But as the plot went along it was alright. A cool fictional take on an interesting chapter of history, definitely worthwhile for everybody who wants to brush up their post colonialism book section or who wants to read about great women doing great things against the odds.
