I thought he was my happily ever after, but everything between us has been a lie. When I discover my husband married me under false pretenses, I want nothing more to do with him. I don’t care if he claims to love me. He broke my trust. Unfortunately, divorcing him could jeopardize a massive sting operation.Apparently, the charming liar isn’t a bartender–he’s an undercover federal agent who married me to gain access to my colleagues. He’s investigating a network of dirty cops, and if I blow his cover, all of the progress he’s made will be lost. The fastest way to get rid of him is to help him finish his case, but doing so plunges me headfirst into danger. The trouble is, I’m not sure which I’m most worried about: the risk to my life, or to my heart.

I saw a snippet of this book on tiktok and thought that it sounded interesting. The premise sounds promising so coming into this book, I had my expectations. So I was very disappointed when I actually read it and the book felt shallow. It did not give the vibes that it was initially giving when I was reading the snippet or reading the summary. The story was not fleshed out like it should have been. The way the story went felt very shallow. We could have had such a great romance out of the angst between the FMC and MMC but it instead we get a short meet cute, 4 months time skip to present where they are already married. There was no build up and we didn't have that strong connection with the couple or the MCs themselves. We just have a biracial (mentioned-Clarified multiple times) female cop and an undercover FBI agent who are playing house while they try to hunt down dirty cops. We could have had such great agnst between the FMC and MMC while they battle between their inner feelings and their jobs, the agnst for the FMC who has to face every cop while thinking who could be dirty and could betray her anytime but no, we get a barely written background for anyone, there was no strong tension, angst or chemistry between the couple, everything was soo easy cause they get friends on the right places that it felt like there was no sense of urgency cause they have "special friends", the danger didn't feel deadly or lethal. There was barely any action. I was also not found of the way the FMC was just "Oh Im hurt" but does nothing.. The motherf***er played the perfect man, married her, lied to her about everything and it was so easy for her to like "I know you lied and its for the greater good, I'm hurt but its okay, I still love you" like seriously? there was not enough groveling in this book or enough rage from the FMC. The MMC as well, I was frustrated with him the most, his POVs were pissing me off. Like "I love you so much but this and that" it was bullsh** There was barely any spice and I'm very grateful that were not much of it cause even in that one scene, I was sooo frustrated between the MCs that I skimmed through the entire sex scene which rarely happens to me, probably next to never.
