Rezension von IdalisI would say the first 4/7ths of the book is SPECTACULAR, and then towards the end, it unraveled a bit. I'm picky with endings 😅 I still highly recommend this book.
Rezension von Carlos R. DiazThis entertaining tale about four siblings is a great story about fate, family and forgiveness. Varya, Daniel, Klara and Simon are compelled by edgy ennui to see a fortune teller on an oppressive, humid summer day in NYC, circa 1969. The seer reveals to the precocious brood the day of their death, effectively affecting the way the live the remainder of their existence. Varya studies longevity in monkeys, Daniel becomes a military doctor after 9/11, Klara becomes a magician in Vegas, and Simon becomes a ballet dancer in San Francisco, circa the AIDS epidemic of the 1980s. As a voracious reader, I found myself relating to the protagonists. A good story is supposed to tug at the heartstrings and encourage you to become emotionally invested in the characters. The fine narrative accomplished its goal. I highly recommend reading this engrossing novel. That is all.
