Bewertung ist für die *gekürzte Version*! Hätte ich vorher gewusst, dass dieser Band gekürzt ist, hätte ich ihn nicht gekauft. Obwohl er wirklich wunderschön aussieht. Diese für Klassiker so übliche Unsitte war mir leider in Vergessenheit geraten und trifft trotz der vorzüglichen Translator's Note ("Life then had broader margins, and both opportunity and inclination are now lacking for such excessive indulgence in the printed page.") nicht auf meine Gegenliebe. Die Kürzungen führen zu nicht wenigen Momenten der Verwirrung; also, where are my lesbians!?! Ich möchte es auf jeden Fall nochmal ungekürzt lesen. Ansonsten tolles Buch, ich liebe die Mischung aus so unverändert menschlichen Charakteren und Einblicken in die damalige Gesellschaft und Weltanschauung. Es ist auch immer wieder überraschend amüsant - (*mild spoiler*) Morrel, der anscheinend all seine stats in stealth investiert hat, die Vampirartigkeit und Dramatik von Monte Cristo, Villeforts unfassbare Dämlichkeit,... ich liebs.

i am listening to it in the craftlit version, an annotated audiobook this gives more context to the story, and makes it even more enjoyable. i have read the book, have seen several movie adaptions but the story stays a great read every time around. Dumas was great at capturing an audience by great descriptions and great characters. total chapters 117 what agreat huge book!!! and how much more interesting by the additional info via craftlit! love it! but wow is it a long book and took ages to listen too!
