format: audio 🎧 🎙️: Natalie Naudus genre: paranormal retelling ✨🥂 📍 tropes/themes: Great Gatsby reimagining- Jordan’s perspective; Vietnamese adoptee mc; magic; bisexual mc; unique magic system; summertime; set in alternate 1920s New York; 1st person pov ⚠️cws: racism, white supremacy domestic abuse, car crash, death and grief 🔥: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ 💭thoughts: A story full of luxury, magic, longing… The same Gatsby, but this time Jordan Baker is a Vietnamese adoptee and everyone drinks demonic alcohol. It’s overindulgent and enchanting while keeping the dry and unbothered tone of Jordan to narrate a spectacular tale

One of my favourite books I've ever read. Nghi Vo's way with words - it's like reading poetry - and I loved how she took a classic with homoerotic subtext and just made it full on queer; and filled it with so much more magic. And I absolutely loved bearing witness to Jordan's journey of self-discovery and fall in love with her along the ride.
