Rezension von JosieEin skandalös gutes Debüt! KLAPPENTEXT Teddy entstammt einer texanischen Familie mit großen politischen Ambitionen. Die Familie atmet auf, als Teddy mit Mitte 30 endlich heiratet und nach Rom zieht. Die Stadt, in der die Stars der Cinecittà auf der Via Veneto flanieren, erscheint Teddy wie ein Versprechen von Freiheit, hier will sie ihre unruhige Vergangenheit hinter sich lassen und eine gute Diplomatengattin sein: glamourös, diskret, stilsicher und stets höflich. Sie wird die Kollegen ihres Mannes bezaubern, und niemand wird ein Wort gegen sie sagen können. Teddy gelingt ihr Vorhaben zunächst gut, sie schließt neue Bekanntschaften auf Partys und Empfängen, ist glücklich mit ihrer kleinen Tätigkeit in der Botschaft. Doch nach nur wenigen Wochen, am 4. Juli, explodiert ihr neues Leben zusammen mit dem Feuerwerk am Himmel. Nun findet sich Teddy inmitten eines Chaos wieder, das selbst tadellose Manieren und einflussreiche Kontakte nicht mehr in den Griff bekommen können. Teddy muss ihr Schicksal selbst in die Hand nehmen. MEINE MEINUNG „Teddy“ ist das Debüt der Autorin Emily Dunlay. Und was für ein Debüt das ist! Während sich der Einstieg in die Geschichte für mich etwas gezogen hat, bin ich durch das letzte Drittel des Buches nur so geflogen. Teddy ist eine unzuverlässige Erzählerin, die sich selbst kaum traut und der auch die Lesenden fast nicht trauen können. Sie verliert sich in Beschreibungen von schönen Kleidern, teurem Schmuck und skandalösen Partys, womit sie zunächst den Eindruck erweckt, eine naive und dümmliche Protagonistin zu sein. Schnell wird aber klar, dass Teddy genau diesen Eindruck erwecken möchte — eigentlich versteht sie so viel mehr, als sie vorgibt. Hinter ihrem tadellosen Aussehen steckt eine Frau mit scharfem Verstand und das wird während des Lesens immer deutlicher. Genau das hat mir bei der Lektüre wahnsinnig viel Spaß gemacht! Die Charaktere sind grau und gut ausgearbeitet und Teddy ist eine der interessantesten Protagonistinnen, die mir je begegnet ist. Auch der Schreibstil ist wahnsinnig toll. Zwar manchmal etwas ausschweifend, aber genau das gehört ja zu Teddy und hat die Erzählart so besonders gemacht. Alles in alles ist „Teddy“ ein sehr gelungenes Debüt, dem ich vier Sterne gebe!
