Christian Steinberger Rezension von Christian Steinberger

This horror novel is one of the bloodiest books I have ever read. Like a horror movie, it shocks the reader with brutal splatter scenes and unexpected, vicious twists in the plot. At the beginning, a global catastrophe devastates families worldwide, causing immense pain and grief: every child who has not yet reached puberty suddenly collapses and dies without warning. The media call this phenomenon “Herod’s Syndrome.” While the dead children are buried in massive graves, they inexplicably return to life after three days. At first, their return appears to be a joyful and miraculous event. Soon, however, parents realize that their children have changed. They are cold, not fully alive, and require human blood to survive. Parents are forced to decide how much of their own blood they are willing to give—and how far they are prepared to go to keep their children alive, even if it means killing others. As a result, blood becomes a scarce and highly sought-after resource. The tension intensifies as the novel follows multiple characters, each struggling with the emotional impact of the catastrophe and responding differently to grief, horror, sacrifice, and survival. This apocalyptic horror novel confronts readers with severe ethical dilemmas and relentless brutality, combining graphic gore and splatter with a zombie-like scenario that makes it difficult to put the book down.
