I say yuri manga have been bland, but it's actually not true. What I enjoyed with <i>Run Away</i> is the more adult relationship, loneliness and its repercussions, and what a little love can do. And yeah, there's a bit of that amusement towards the Japanese proclivity that most manga and anime show. That one can only love another deeply if they are from their past somehow. With Midori and Maki acting as mirrors to each other to show how one can live for oneself versus letting the loneliness be a problem that leads to wrong (or at least, false) answers, it makes for an interesting narrative. Maki's character may seem lacking given the interiority of her concerns. I'm here to say that sure, her hesitation does not make for riveting plot and story, but it's important as a foil to how Midori acts seemingly without care.
