Nach "Der König von Narnia" (BA 11/05) gelingt C. Rendel und W. Hohlbein auch für diesen Band eine flüssige Neuübersetzung, die die bildreiche Sprache des Autors kongenial überträgt. Erzählende Passagen und insbesondere die Dialoge treffen stimmig den modernen Sprachgebrauch. In dieser Einführung der "Chroniken von Narnia" gelangen Digory und Polly mittels magischer Ringe in einen Wald, dessen Teiche zu anderen Welten führen. Sie erleben, wie der Löwe Aslan das Land Narnia zum Leben erweckt, aber auch, wie durch Digorys Verhalten die Hexe Jadis dorthin gelangt. Verbunden durch manche Figuren und kleine Details, ist vorliegender Band 1 der "Chroniken ..." zum Verständnis von Band 2 "Der König von Narnia" nicht notwendig. Neckenauer gekonnt übersetzen Ausgaben bei Ueberreuter (zuletzt 2002, ISBN 3800020432) und Brendow (zuletzt 5. Auflage 2005, ISBN 3865060811) müssen nicht ausgetauscht werden. Bei Neukauf oder Ersatz sollten jedoch die Neuübersetzungen bevorzugt werden..
