Rezension von DennisMongrels von Stephen Graham Jones hat mich mit seiner einzigartigen Mischung aus Werwolf-Mythologie und Coming-of-Age-Geschichte tief beeindruckt. Im Mittelpunkt steht ein namenloser Junge, der in einer zerrütteten Familie von Werwölfen aufwächst. Ständig auf der Flucht, lebt die Familie ein Leben am Rande der Gesellschaft, geprägt von Geheimnissen und dem Versuch, sich vor neugierigen Blicken zu verstecken. Der Junge ringt mit der Frage, ob er selbst ein Werwolf wird, und versucht gleichzeitig, seinen Platz in einer Welt zu finden, die für Außenseiter wie ihn keinen Raum bietet. Besonders gelungen fand ich die Charaktere, vor allem seine starke, schützende Tante Libby und den unberechenbaren, aber loyalen Onkel Darren. Beide verkörpern auf unterschiedliche Weise die Härten und die Freiheit des Werwolf-Daseins. Der Autor schafft es meisterhaft, klassische Werwolf-Elemente wie Verwandlungen und tierische Instinkte mit rauem Realismus zu verbinden. Die düstere, oft emotionale Atmosphäre wird durch schwarzen Humor und lebendige Beschreibungen aufgelockert, die mich direkt in die verfallenen Motels, Wälder und Kleinstädte des amerikanischen Südens versetzt haben. Für mich ist Mongrels mehr als ein Horrorroman. Es ist eine bewegende Geschichte über Familie, Identität und die Herausforderungen, anders zu sein. Sie bleibt lange im Gedächtnis und ist ein Muss für alle, die komplexe, andere Geschichten lieben
