Rezension von RaymondI received this book from Netgalley and Gallery Books in exchange for a fair and honest review. Thank you! This book flummoxed me, I was expecting something a bit more horror gothic, heavy on detail and slow to begin. Instead, I got a more direct and a " Stephen King: The Gunslinger" type of read, there are echoes of The Dark Tower here. I found this book kept me turning the pages. Little Heaven starts slow but the horror element quickly raises its head. Cutter takes his time building the characters of Micah, Ebenezer, and Minerva and showing us their background. He does this by hopping back and forth between the sixties and eighties and also having the characters reminiscing about their past. Although characters like Ellen, are less fleshed out than the others, but that's because she serves as the outside character who gives them the incentive to enter Little Heaven. As far as characters go, the book is fine. Pace-wise, I felt the book while occasionally being a bit slow was relatively well paced. I liked the story overall, but I do think that a bit of the prose could've been exorcised. Despite the work being a little overly drawn out, there's an addictive quality to this tale. It's certainly felt as if this novel would make a really good movie. Worth a gander.
