3 Sterne Interessantes Buch, aber leider mit einer furchtbar schlecht umgesetzten Lovestory und fadenscheinigen Charakteren.

SkyllenRezension von Skyllen

Overall rating: 3,5 Stars 1. Characters: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Day is a cool, selfless and clever protagonist with a good heart and his family in focus of all his actions. I like him, understand his motives and am interested to see, how he plans to continue his path in the next books. Tess is cute and apparently a gifted healer but up to this point, I don‘t feel a strong connection to her. She helps Day and keeps him company, seems intelligent herself, but she doesn‘t stand out. I feel like boring is not the right word but … she‘s rather uninteresting. June on the other hand … I disliked her pretty much in the beginning. She‘s nothing more than an arrogant, young brat who enjoys to be the center of attention because of her intelligence. All of her disgusted thoughts towards the poor: I often wondered how she is so ignorant all the time while claiming to be clever. Sure she was brainwashed all her life but since she is able to point out the differences between the richer and poorer parts of Los Angeles I wondered about her lack of questions. She takes everything for granted and shows no interest in the truth. Up until she finds out about her brothers’ secret messages. My opinion slightly changed when she starts to put the pieces of the puzzle together. Still … I‘m not 100% convinced about her yet. In the end you probably have to consider that she‘s only 15 in the book. So it probably excuses her ignorance since too young to yet understand the whole world as it is (Although she mostly does in the book. She‘s just pretty clever … but again not that clever … It‘s difficult really). 2. Plot: ⭐️⭐️⭐️,5 I love dystopian settings and this one serves as well! I like how the Republic is portrayed and I hope to get more details in the upcoming books regarding the Colonies and how the United States split into two. The plot itself follows a clear line. Sometimes it gets a little boring in between but since the book isn‘t too long I don‘t mind. What I miss is the tension. A lot of things happened in the book but somehow I didn‘t really feel the tension. There was no real built-up in my opinion. But that might probably rather be the writing style and not the events themselves. Another point is the romance: I like logic romances, the one‘s where the relationship builds on a solid ground which doesn‘t come out of nowhere. Especially when enemys to lovers is involved. This love between Day and June … it develops too fast and in my eyes doesn‘t make much sense. But I guess that‘s the thing with YA. 3. Writing style: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I like Marie Lu‘s style very much. Especially how she switches the narration a little while switching between Day and June. June is very detail-focused and you feel that while reading her parts. I love how Lu always adds further details June notices, hoe she calculates numbers in her head and comes to conclusions pretty fast. It underlines her perfect score in the Great Test. 4. Overall feeling: ⭐️⭐️⭐️,5

Warum habe ich mit dem Lesen dieses Buches so lange gewartet? Grandioser und spannender Auftakt, ich werde direkt mit dem zweiten Band weitermachen.

Very good plot, nice characters and a lot of action! At the beginning it was a bit slow-paced but I enjoyed the reading anyway :)
