The Lady knows the stories - that her eyes induce madness in men. The Lady knows she will be wed to the Scottish brute, who does not leave his warrior ways behind when he comes to the marriage bed. The Lady knows his hostile, suspicious court will be a game of survival, requiring all of her wiles and hidden witchcraft to survive. But the Lady does not know her husband has occult secrets of his own. She does not know that prophecy girds him like armour. She does not know that her magic is greater, and more dangerous, and that it will threaten the order of the world. She does not know this yet. But she will.

I have already seen many positive as well as negative reviews of the book. Many of the negative reviews have criticized the way the book is written because it is technically a retelling of Shakespeare's famous stories, but has very little in common, which has upset many. Others like the book precisely because it is a kind of retelling that moves in a more feminist direction. I share the views of both groups and understand the reasoning. However, I have chosen to see the work as different from the original and should be judged on that basis. In general, I liked the retelling, so specifically I have no extremely negative criticisms. I also quite liked the story content with witches, dragons and bloody battles. However, I have to say that I sometimes had difficulties with the language, as English is not my first language. I had to look up a lot of words or many sentences had a more complicated structure so that sometimes had to interrupt the flow of reading. The story had a dark touch, which I also liked. Regularly a good novel. However, I have to say that I was very captivated in the first half of the book, but less so in the latter half. After putting the book down for 4 weeks, I've finished the last few pages and somehow the ending didn't blow me away as much as I first thought. Nevertheless, a very cool book. I give it one star just for the beautiful book design!
