Rezension von FeeDieses Buch hat mich komplett aus dem Gleichgewicht gebracht. Von Anfang an weiß man, dass Nan die Mörderin von „drei“ Mädchen ist. Und trotzdem passiert etwas sehr Unangenehmes: Man ist die ganze Zeit in ihrem Kopf. Man erlebt alles aus ihrer Perspektive. Man versteht ihre Gedanken, ihre Rechtfertigungen, ihre Verletzungen. Und irgendwann merkt man, dass man mit ihr mitfiebert OBWOHL sie wie eine Psychopathin wirkt. Genau das hat mich sprachlos gemacht. Gleichzeitig war ich mir nie sicher, wie verlässlich Nan als Erzählerin eigentlich ist. Ist das wirklich die Wahrheit oder nur ihre Version davon? Dieses ständige Hinterfragen hat das Lesen unglaublich intensiv gemacht, weil man nie festen Boden unter den Füßen hatte. Als luce wieder auftaucht, verschiebt sich die Dynamik komplett. Niemand scheint eindeutig gut oder eindeutig böse. Die Geschichte spielt permanent mit Sympathien und Moralvorstellungen. Ich habe mich mehr als einmal gefragt, was das über mich aussagt, dass ich manchmal gehofft habe, Nan kommt irgendwie davon. Emotional ist das Buch ein extremes Auf und Ab. Viele Entwicklungen konnte ich erahnen, einige haben mich überrascht. Besonders gegen Ende wird das Tempo noch einmal deutlich angezogen und man weiß wirklich nicht mehr, was einen auf der nächsten Seite erwartet. Der Schreibstil ist fesselnd und leicht poetisch, aber trotzdem jung und direkt. Rory Power schafft es, eine düstere, beklemmende Atmosphäre aufzubauen, ohne dass es überladen wirkt. Ich war mit dem Ende gleichzeitig zufrieden und unzufrieden. Rational betrachtet ergibt es Sinn. Emotional fühlt es sich kompliziert an. Und vielleicht ist genau das die Stärke dieses Buches. Kill Creatures ist keine Geschichte über Gut und Böse. Es ist eine Geschichte darüber, wie leicht sich moralische Grenzen verschieben können.
Rezension von daintyReading this book felt like watching an eerie and creepy indie movie. Every detail was perfect - from the broken memories to the constant fights of the parents that may seem like nothing at the beginning. I didn’t like Nan and found her creepy and uncomfortable from the beginning and it’s thanks to the writing and the detailed yet smooth description of her own thoughts and self. She was a 16 y/o desperate girl and you got the vibe by how she got coddled by her mother or how she always found excuses for her friends. Didn’t like how she called them „my girls“ when they were obviously a trio without her and felt like she was obsessed before it became obvious. I was on the verge of feeling sorry for and feeling creeped out by her. And when I read the Epilogue I gasped - maybe they all deserved what they’ve been through. Because they were all either mean girls or psychopaths. This was such a nice and quick read :)
