I can't say that I didn't enjoy this book because I kinda did. I'm just saying I'm glad I wasn't reading this while I was in my coming-out process. I'm sure it would've discouraged me and sent out a completely wrong message. "Keeping You a Secret" might have the intention to help LGBT people accepting themselves. But for me, the main message was: You should be afraid to come out to your family and friends because chances are high they will despise you and probably kick you out of the house. But hey, at least you still have your girlfriend and her family on your side. God, I know the author had good intentions in writing this book and wanted to help youths questioning their sexuality but in my opinion she didn't do it right. Although I'm sure it might have helped a lot of LGBT people I also know it would've scared the shit out of me if I would've read it a few years earlier. Long story short: enjoyable story, somehow likeable characters (at least the two girls in the centre), way too many stereotypes and the wrong message.

It was a good novel. I loved the characters, and I love the plot, however I did not like/cringed at the allusion that lesbians cannot be friends with girls the same way they would if they were straight. That's beyond preposterous. (but aside from that, I rather loved it)
