Rezension von RaymondDespite the title, "Ivanhoe" often feels like a novel where the supposed hero keeps wandering off while everyone else steals the spotlight. Rebecca, Brian De Bois-Guilbert, and even the supporting cast are frequently more compelling and memorable than Ivanhoe himself. By comparison, the knight sometimes seems more like a guest star in his own story. Scott provides rich historical detail and colourful characters within the novel which by themselves make the book an enduring classic, but any reader expecting Ivanhoe to dominate every chapter may come away surprised. When Ivanhoe does appear, he's certainly brave and honorable, but the drama around him often overshadows his role. Overall, "Ivanhoe" is an entertaining historical adventure with memorable characters and grand medieval spectacle but be prepared for the fact that Ivanhoe will not be one of those memorable characters.
