Imagine if you will, the most cookbook mystery plot points you could, haphazardly glued together, but also, written by Stephen Moffatt! (It's true because I say it is! I'm not going to tell or show you why it makes sense!) This is a 1.5/5 rounded up, it's an old netgalley request from 2020 that ran away from me, but all comments are based off of the final copy I purchased (I'm glad I bought it from Glad Day, cause otherwise I'd feel like I wasted the money). As I get older, I'm trying real hard to make sure I review YA as YA - and not necessarily faulting it if it doesn't line up with what I want out of a novel, given that they aren't necessarily written for me. That said, there were a lot of times in here where I genuinely was confused as to how conclusions were being drawn, where plot points were linked together or whether I'd somehow missed a whole chunk of character development. I put the book down multiple times wondering if I'd missed a chapter. I'm mainly confused as to what I just read. I think this would work for a <i>younger</i> teen audience, it's very vividly described and fast paced, kind of like a standard procedural episode of TV, but I think for me this is the last time I try this author.
