Rezension von Raphaela Der 15jährige John ist kein normaler Teenager. Seine Mutter betreibt das örtliche Leichenschauhaus in dem er aushilft seit er sieben ist und zudem ist John sein Soziopath. Sein großes Interesse gilt Serienkillern, aber in erster Linie aus dem Grund, weil er befürchtet, selbst einer zu werden. Die typischen Anzeichen sind da. Um das Monster in sich unter Kontrolle zu behalten, folgt John ganz bestimmten Regeln im Alltag. Doch dann erscheint eines Tages ein echter Serienkiller in seinem Wohnort. Doch kein gewöhnlicher und John wird klar, dass er sich auf eine gefährliche Zusammenarbeit mit dem Monster in sich einlassen muss, um das Monster, dass draußen durch die Straßen zieht zu besiegen. Der Roman ist Auftakt einer Serie und ich bin entschlossen die weiteren Romane rund um John Wayne Cleaver zu lesen. Derm Autor gelingt es hervorragend, Spannung aufzubauen und die Charakterzeichnung ist einfach genial. Die Gegenüberstellung der Hauptcharaktere bringt den Leser in einen Interessenkonflikt, aus dem man nicht entkommt. Auf der einen Seite der Protagonist, der einem in seinem Charakter und seinen Wünschen so fremd und unverständlich ist und auf der anderen Seite als Antagonist ein Serienkiller dessen Motiv man nur zu sehr verstehen kann. Absolut genialer Roman, wenn auch bisweilen sehr anschaulich was den Umgang mit Leichen im Leichenschauhaus und die Morde angeht. Also nichts für Leser mit schwachem Magen.
