Rezension von Nikas.LesewahnsinnDieses Buch ist düster, angenehm verstörend und verführerisch. Definitiv ein wilder und atmosphärischer Mix aus Romance und Horror. Harley Laroux liefert mit diesem Buch eine herbstliche Dark-Romance Horror Mischung, wie ich so noch nie gelesen habe. Ich war wirklich fasziniert. Das Buch ist intensiv, sinnlich und geheimnisvoll. Und definitiv nichts für schwache Nerven. Genau diese Mischung macht das Buch aber so fesselnd. Salem flieht vor ihrem gebrochenen Herzen und ist auf der Suche nach sich selbst. Das macht sie unfassbar authentisch. Auch wenn sie sehr verletzt ist, ist sie absolut mutig und stellt sich ihren eigenen Wünschen. Rayne ist die geheimnisvolle Besitzerin des Bed & Breakfasts. Sie hat wirklich in jeder Szene elektrisiert. Rayne ist düster, verführerisch und gleichermaßen faszinierend wie unheimlich. Die Chemie mit Salem und ihr knistert auf jeder Seite, ohne jemals an Intensität zu verlieren. Besonders gelungen empfand ich die Atmosphäre und das Setting. Blackridge Island wirkt wie ein Ort, der fast selbst ein Charakter ist. Irgendwie bedrückend, voller Schatten und Gerüchte. Aber auch tief religiös. Die Verbindung aus sinnlicher, queerer Romance und übernatürlichem Horror sorgt dafür, dass ich beim Lesen ständig zwischen Gänsehaut und Herzklopfen geschwankt bin. Die mysteriösen Ereignisse im Hotel, das Gerücht um den rachsüchtigen Engel und das Verschwinden der Gäste verleihen der Geschichte eine unheimliche Spannung. Sie baut sich langsam, aber stetig auf. Manche Szenen sind definitiv bewusst verstörend, andere überraschend emotional. Auch wenn das Buch unglaublich atmosphärisch und packend ist, schlugen einige Stellen zu sehr über die Stränge. Sicher passt das zum Genre, aber wirkte für mich nicht immer gleichmäßig. Dennoch bleibt es eine der originellsten Romance-Horror-Geschichten, die ich 2025 gelesen habe. Definitiv ein Buch für Fans von düsteren, queeren Romancen mit Horror-Twist.
