Rezension von feder_magieDieser Reihenauftakt ist auf sehr viele Arten wahnsinnig. Postapokalyptischer Horror, trifft auf Religion und auf queere Held*innen. Dabei war dieses Buch auch noch wahnsinnig gut. Bitte beachtet, dass die Beschreibungen zum Teil sehr brutal und Splatter ähnlich sind. Dieser metaphorische Aufbau der Geschichte war einfach atemberaubend. Wer es lieber einfacher und verständlich mag, wird mit diesem Buch nicht glücklich, wer gerne Wortbilder interpretiert und Sprache liebt, der wird hier viel Spaß haben. Protagonist ist Benji, ein transs3xueller Junge, dessen Mutter Kopf einer Sekte ist, die moderne Prinzipien ablehnen und somit auch Benjis Wunsch ein Junge zu sein, nicht gutheißen. Diese Ablehnung wird als Virus beschrieben, der Menschenrechte untergräbt und auch Menschen umbringt. Nur wer hier sehr tief blickt, wird die Parallelen zu unserer Welt finden und die Bilder entziffern. Das Buch repräsentiert eine sehr breite Facette queerer Persönlichkeiten und legt auch viel Wert darauf respektvoll mit jeder Identität umzugehen. Benji landet nämlich im Jugendzentrum ALC und dort ist es normal sich mit Pronomen vorzustellen und jeden entsprechend anzusprechen. Anführer Nick gefällt Benji besonders gut und es dauert nicht lang, bis seine Gefühle ihn übermannen. Nick ist Autist und ich liebte es, dass ein neurodiverser Mensch hier eine leitende Persönlichkeit ist. Damit wird signalisiert, wie wertvoll zum Beispiel Eigenschaften wie starke Fokus-Fähigkeiten, ausgeprägte Detailgenauigkeit und vielseitige Perspektiven sind, die von der Gesellschaft oft als negativ aufgefasst werden. Das Buch zeigt tolle Statements, aber leider auch die Seite der absoluten Intoleranz. In diesem Buch kann man stundenlang verweilen und so viel entdecken. Ein handwerkliches Meisterwerk und ein großes Lob an die Übersetzung von Katrin Aust. Das war bestimmt eine Mammut-Aufgabe. Kein Buch zum Weglesen, dafür aber geballte Ladungen Gesellschaftskritik und Respekt für queere und neurodiverse Menschen.
