Alexander Solschenizyn, 1918 in Kislowodsk geboren, war Mathematiklehrer und Schriftsteller. Von 1945 bis 1953 im Konzentrationslager, danach drei Jahre Verbannung. 1957 rehabilitiert. 1969 Ausschluss aus dem sowjetischen Schriftstellerverband, 1970 Nobelpreis, 1974 Ausweisung. Solschenizyn ging zunächst in die Schweiz, lebte dann in Vermont, USA, und kehrte 1994 nach Russland zurück. Er starb am 3. August 2008
