Rezension von Kathleen ✨Das Buch hat mich nicht wirklich überzeugt. Der Titel hält, was er verspricht – sehr viele Deep Cuts und viel Musik-Insiderwissen, was mir persönlich aber etwas zu nischig und nerdy war. Auch mit der Protagonistin Percy bin ich nicht warm geworden. Joe hingegen hat mir die ganze Zeit leidgetan.
Rezension von JoanneI’m not sure if I finished the book or if the book finished me. My mind tends to view the world in an overly poetic way, so I’m not sure if I truly enjoyed the book or simply endured it. In some chapters I was on the edge of my seat, tearing up and feeling the words deeply, while in others, I just wished it would end quickly. Around the 60% mark I began pre-listening to the songs mentioned in the titles and that helped me immensely to understand what was being conveyed. Because of my poetic mindset I do believe that those ups and downs were meant to reflect the struggles of a twenty-something woman dealing with herself, friendships, and finding passion and love. I loved the book’s concept and the overall music theme, even though I didn’t fully grasp every aspect or thought expressed.
Rezension von AnnaThis book has been immediately added to my list of favorite books, one I will not become tired of recommending it to fellow music geeks, romantics at heart. Although it is essentially a ‘strangers become lovers’ trope, it is a coming-of-age story with characters, very messy and somewhat subborn in their still young, immature views and beliefs. But it was fun to follow them along, finding themselves and each other in the story. The best thing about "Deep Cuts", without a doubt, is the deep-dive into music history. A must-read for music geeks, as it navigates through music history and its ‘deep cuts,’ songs by great artists and bands that are overlooked in their repertoire but loved by fans. I wanted to stop every other page, listen to the book's playlist and immerse myself in the songs. This will (hopefully) make a great book to screen adaption one day!
