Rezension von NeaI got hooked to Maria’s story right from the start. She made the characters so alive for me. It was really beautiful to see how she writes them and the way my likings for them changed as we were going on in the story. I loved it.
Rezension von JessicaI really liked this book. It had me captured from the first to the last page and I was really feeling the characters pains and sufferings. I thought Alice was a bit annoying at some points but I really enjoyed Sabines view and later on Charlotte's. I think this was such a great concept and the portrayal for the vampires is amazing. I was so sad the whole time and really thought that Charlotte and Sabine as well deserved a happy ending. In the end i would have loved to get some more of Sabines view on the happenings of the story but sadly that never came. All in all I think this was a great book and i would recommend it to everyone who likes yearning and queer tragic love.

I'm not usually someone who pre-orders books, especially not when I’ve never read anything by the author before - but this time, I did. Three different hardback editions, one e-book version, and the special edition from Illumicrate. Madness. Pure madness, I’m telling you... But I was, and still am, the perfect target for the marketing. As a vampire lover with a 25+ year obsession with Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles, my expectations and hopes were high but my fear of being disappointed was even higher. <i>“Let the tale seduce you, just as I was seduced.” – Louis de Pointe du Lac, Anne Rice</i> For a very, very, very long time - decades, even - I haven’t experienced a book and the hype around it, which I had built up for myself over months since its announcement, actually live up to that anticipation. But this one did. From the very first page, I was hooked. Maria drew me in, while my younger self saw herself in Alice. I fell for Sabine, felt confused, and ended up loving <i>Sabine</i> even more. I understand that it might be confusing: the different perspectives, the jumps back and forth in time. But it all makes sense. It’s such a creative and artful way to tell a story. Is it perfect? No. There are parts where it drags a little. And yet, it always moves forward, even when it feels like you’re going in circles. It leaves you with questions and sparks discussion - and to me, that’s what subjectively defines a good book. And if you know Lestat and Louis (and even Armand!), you’ll recognize so many nuances, memories, and homages that’ll make an old fangirl squeal with joy more than once. Gosh, what I wouldn’t give for a standoff between Sabine and Lestat! A clear reading recommendation! Just do it!
