Rezension von kenMy favourite thing about this novel: Miriam's potty mouth. The descriptions that are on point, vivid, dark. Pretty great. And if it was a romance novel, the things the narrator says would've made me cringe (white on rice, chrome on a bumper, a hungry velociraptor on a chained-up goat) but instead it comes off funny, ridiculous, and oddly fitting for the moment. The dream sequences were trippy as heck but I love it. Waking up on a Sunday to read that first thing? Bound to make a fella's day. (I refuse to use the word 'visceral' in describing this novel because two out of six reviews in it already described it as such, so there.) But my favourite takeaway from this novel is that fate can go fuck itself in the ass, but the universe still demands balance. Which is a universal concept, but I'm pretty sure only humans are out to deny fate the pleasure of watching us writhe beneath its cruel thumb. And now I must lie in wait for the Book Depository to deliver Mockingbird and The Cormorant to my doorstep so I can continue into this hitchhiker trip across the US highways.
