Ein als Blizzard angekündigter Sturm lässt fast alle Erwachsene und viele Kinder verschwinden. Der 14-jährige Matt und sein Freund Tobias müssen in der nun zerstörten Stadt um ihr Leben kämpfen. Die restlichen Erwachsenen haben entweder ihr Gedächtnis verloren und verfolgen die übrig gebliebenen Kinder, oder sie haben sich in Mutanten verwandelt, die durch die Stadt streifen. Aufgrund einer Botschaft von anderen überlebenden Kindern begeben sich die beiden Freunde nach Süden, wo sie dann auf eine Gruppe Überlebender treffen, die sich die "Pans" nennen. Doch bald merken sie, dass sich in der Gruppe ein Verräter befindet. "Alterra" ist ein gut geschriebenes Fantasy-Buch mit einer zwar nicht ganz neuen Idee, die aber gut umgesetzt wird. Trotz mehrerer 100 Seiten ist es kurzweilig zu lesen und bleibt die gesamte Geschichte hindurch spannend. Einerseits ist es in einigen Punkten unlogisch, andererseits ist es in mancher Hinsicht auch realistischer, als man es von einem Fantasy-Buch erwartet. Der Roman ist ein vielversprechender 1. Band einer Trilogie, erschienen im neuen Pan-Verlag.
